When I ask my daughter what she wants to be when she grows up, she always has the same answer.
"A shark trainer and a street sweeper."
That's an impressive combination, for sure, but I believe her true talent lies elsewhere.
Mark my words. Angie Fontaine is going to be the greatest infomercial pitchgirl of her generation. She may be a mere kindergartner, but she's perfect for the job. She's loud, she's enthusiastic, and she's persuasive as hell.
It all started one afternoon while I was emptying the dishwasher.
"Mom," she said. "Do we have PackIt?"
"I don't know," I answered. "What's that?"
"Well, it's a packet that helps keep food fresher five times longer than my regular lunchbox," she said. "Think of all the money you'll save."
Note to self: Get this girl an agent.
Her obsession with made-for-TV products has taken me by surprise. Last week, I had a daughter who watched cartoons over a plate of Goldfish crackers and a mug of chocolate milk. This week, I have a miniature version of the OxiClean guy.
After her infatuation with the fancy lunch bag, Angie made a plug for paper plates shaped like zoo animals. Then she wanted a remote-controlled helicopter that can pick up "anything in the world," she said. After that, it was color-changing markers.
But wait, there's more.
"Mom, can I have Glow Crazy?" she asked one evening before bed. "It writes anywhere in your house. You can even draw in the night on your ceiling."
"Why do you want to draw on the ceiling?" I said.
"That way I can make the nighttime fun," she answered.
"You're supposed to be sleeping at nighttime," I said.
"Yeah, but this makes sleeping cooler!" she replied.
