Back to school haircuts to Benefit Hands On!
You can be a part of a community collaboration to benefit Hands On!, the children's museum in downtown Hendersonville, and get your child's back-to-school haircut. Hands On! is partnering with four local salons and stylists to offer $10 haircuts for children and teens ages 1-15.
Call to schedule an appointment through Aug. 24 at any of the following locations: Allure Hair Design, 692-0555; Bliss Salon, 692-4452; Moxie Salon & Spa, 697-0317; and New Image Salon, 692-3044. The cost is $10, with half the cost of every haircut being donated to Hands On!
Hands On! is at 318 N. Main St. and is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays. For more information, call 697-8333 or visit the website at www.handsonwnc.org.
Jamaica Jam to play at library Wednesday
End your summer with a visit to the Caribbean islands when Jamaica Jam takes the stage at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Kaplan Auditorium of the Henderson County Public Library.
The band, composed of Hallie Sheaffer (steel pan drum), Joey Moore (congas), Brian Gurl (keyboard) and M. King Goslin (guitar), presents island-style vocals on familiar favorites such as "Banana Boat Song," "Margaritaville," "Jamaica Farewell" and more.
This free event is sponsored by the Friends of the Henderson County Library. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. No tickets are required, and seating is first come, first served.
FRP to stage Christie's ‘The Mousetrap'
Flat Rock Playhouse presents Agatha Christie's "The Mousetrap" onstage Aug. 18 through Sept. 11. The mother of all modern mysteries — whether play, movie or television series — "The Mousetrap" was written by the undisputed mistress of the mystery genre.
"The Mousetrap" follows a group of strangers — one of whom is a murderer — trapped in a boarding house during a snowstorm. As one would imagine, the situation intensifies when one of the guests is murdered. The plot asks the question: "How well do you know the people you let in your house?" This seems to be a question that the new owners of a guesthouse have severely overlooked. During a snowstorm, the houseguests arrive one by one, the next one more mysterious than the last.
