10th anniversary Art for Life is Sept. 9 | Seen First — Denver society ...

Study after study has shown that when it comes to charitable fundraisers, Denver has more per capita than any comparably sized city in the nation. Joanne Davidson has been covering them for The Denver Post since 1985, coming here from her native California where she'd spent the previous seven years as San Francisco bureau chief for U.S. News & World Report magazine.

Project Angel Heart is having its 10th Art for Life auction on Sept. 9, and the fundraiser chaired by Carmel Koeltzow and Michael O’Donnell will have an interesting new element: an emerging artists salon that will featured juried selections by students from Denver School of the Arts and the Art Students League of Denver.

Koeltzow says the goal is to have at least 500 guests attend the 6 p.m. event held at Art Network, 878 Santa Fe Drive. Tickets are $65 each or $120 for two and can be purchased by visiting blacktie-colorado.com .

The admission fee includes hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, fine wines, desserts and the opportunity to bid on creations donated by 100-plus local and nationally recognized artists.

Thanks to the generosity of sponsors and the art community, 100 percent of the proceeds will go to Project Angel Heart’s mission of delivering nutritious meals, at no cost, to adults and children battling life-threatening illnesses in Colorado. Last year, Art for Life raised about $60,000.

This year’s sponsors include American National Bank, United Healthcare, Gerretson Realty, Inc., Michael Ragsdale, Deidre O’Callaghan, Michael O’Donnell, Lynne and John Grigsby, and Karsten Riggs. 5280 Magazine, American Harvest Organic Spirit Vodka, Robert Modavi Wines, OutFront Colorado, Walker Fine Art, Frederic Printing and Bouquets are among the community partners.

Project Angel Heart delivers nutritious meals to improve quality of life, at no cost, for those coping with life-threatening illness. It was established in Denver in 1991, delivering meals to its first 12 clients from a single pan of donated lasagna. Most clients were battling HIV/AIDS and did not have the strength to leave their homes or prepare their own food.
