Reflexology For The Feet
Seward Screw in midst of building expansion
SEWARD — Seward Screw Products, the family-owned maker of custom-machined and cold-formed parts and components, is building a 28,000-square-foot expansion to its plant in Seward.
Building Systems Inc. of Loves Park is the general contractor on the project, and Belles Firm of Architecture in Rockford designed the project.
CEO Dale Falconer obtained a building permit for the expansion in December. The permit estimates the construction cost at $830,000. Falconer wouldn’t say what the total cost of the project will be.
The custom machine shop has for years relied heavily on its biggest customer, Milwaukee’s Harley-Davidson Motor Co. Group Inc. But Falconer said it’s the growth of its other customers that is driving the expansion.
“Harley is still our largest single account, but some of our existing customers are expanding rapidly,” Falconer said. “We have customers that work with Caterpillar and John Deere and they are doing very well. The timing is right.”
Seward Screw, which dropped to about 100 workers during the depths of the Great Recession, now employs about 120 workers. Falconer said he does not plan to add jobs in the near future.
“At least not initially. We’ll just transfer some people over,” he said.
The expansion will boost Seward Screw’s plant to more than 100,000 square feet. Falconer said the company hopes to be able to use the additional space by June.
