A sign-in booth will be available for all visitors, guests, and CUSD departments. An exclusive, but limited four-page commemorative book highlighting historical events and photographs will be distributed to all attendees. The commemorative book will feature the schools’ progression of the first 50 years, beginning in 1958 from a one-room schoolhouse to seven large schools today. Former superintendents will be contacted by Ms. Gloria Grant, Chair of the Fiftieth Anniversary Committee including Mr. Ray Aguilera, Mr. Albert A.Yazzie, Dr. Leon Ben, Dr. Phil Bluehouse, Dr. Javier Abrego, Mr. Henry Gatewood, Mr. Darrell Doss, Mr. Keith Crawley and Mrs. Mary Ann Hunter. A special tribute will highlight former Superintendents Elmer Nix, Jim Mathews, Roland Kimbrough, and Dr. Bob Roessel, Sr., Dr. Dean C. Jackson (deceased), Walt Zart, and Russell Harrach. Hundreds of former governing board members will also be recognized and they are requested to contact the committee chair for additional information as soon as possible. Following the morning’s events all staff, alumni, and guests are invited to lunch at the Wildcat Den. The committee will host a Gallery Walk in the Wildcat Den focusing on the past fifty years by featuring enlarged photographs with a historical perspective on Chinle Unified School District’s first schools with a progression to the present year. will be showcased on the concourse of the upper walkway of the Wildcat Den. Glass showcases will display memorabilia of sports uniforms, lettermen jackets, athletic sweaters, sports caps, and more. A collection of all past photographic student annuals commemorating the fifty years of the Chinle Unified School District will be encased to view. Life-size photographs will be positioned intermittently throughout the walk. Music from the late 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and to the present year 2008 will be played on the Den’s sound system.
