Illinois Sen. Susan Garrett (D-29th) and Julie Morrison, Democratic candidate for the 29th Senate District, will hold a joint press conference at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Italian Kitchen Restaurant in Deerfield.
Garrett will be making a statement about the upcoming election for her senate seat, which she has held since 2002. Morrison announced last month her intention to seek the Democratic party’s nomination for the seat. She is serving in her 15th year as supervisor of West Deerfield Township, and will be joined by supporters at the press conference.
The Italian Kitchen is located at 648 Deerfield Road, a half-block east of Waukegan Road in downtown Deerfield.

for internships
The Tenth Congressional District Democrats are accepting applications for the Tenth Dems Fall Internship Program. The appointments are available to high school juniors and seniors, college students, and graduate or law students with a desire to help the Democratic Party.
The internship offers candidates the opportunity to develop transferable skills to whatever career path they may choose to follow. Several former interns have gone on to internships in Washington, D.C., to college majors in political science and law, and paid political and non-profit staff positions locally and nationally.
The election season for 2012 has begun so there are opportunities for interns to learn about campaigning and the issues affecting the 10th District. General assignment interns may do research; walk door to door with candidates; work in campaign offices, staff events and issue forums; and meet political figures. Specialized assignments are also available in research, new media, information technology management, and political outreach.
