GMC Sierra 1500 SLE Texas Edition – A steady performer for work and for play

The current line of GMC Sierra pickup trucks has been in the market now for about 5 years.  Styling is solid but not particularly new, yet this truck delivers for work or play for those wanting a solid truck at a reasonable price. 

Almost 50% of the pickup trucks sold in America are sold in Texas.  So, for all the major players in the pickup market, Texas is very important and all offer some sort of a Texas Edition Special. GMC is no exception 

The Sierra 1500 SLE Texas Edition 2WD Crew Cab we tested was the basic with a couple of add ons plus the Texas Edition package.  The Fire Red color with Dark / Light Titanium interior was pleasant giving it a richer than just for work appearance. The truck profile is large and sturdy as you would expect from a work truck.  The turning radius for is a bit wide as compared to the competition and does limit its functionality in parking lots and garages off the job.  The interior is spacious and has lots of storage with easy to use handles and controls geared more to the work environment.  Seats are standard 40/20/40 split front bench cloth seat with large fold-down rest with storage.  Crew cab seating is comfortable and roomy, but storage is sparse.  And, I was surprised to find that there were no air conditioning outlets in the crew space.  

The base price for the Sierra SLE 1500 Crew is 2WD is $31,835.  The package base includes a 4.8L Vortec V8 engine, power steering and accessories with chrome bumpers and 17” chrome – styled steel wheels and full size spare.  OnStar is included.  An optional Convenience Package costing $860 and including universal home remote, remote vehicle start, electric rear window defogger, rear parking assist and adjustable power pedals add to the appeal of this truck in a non work environment.   The rear parking assist was augmented by a rear vision camera system for further convenience. The additional cost is $450 with the view screen in the corner of the rear view mirror.

5.3 LSX VORTEC ENGINE Swap - Chevy Tahoe Forum | GMC ...

I purchased a 2003 5.3 LSX VORTEC ENGINE AND 4X4 TRANSMISSION, to replace the engine and transmission in my 92 YUKON 2dr 4x4 and was wounding if I should try to locate a 2003 dash to use an a replacement dash, in my 92 YUKON, as this would be faster and hopefully more simple than rewiring my dash to match up with the 2003 engine and computer wiring I have purchased..... i don't think that the wiring in the dash you're worrying about is gonna be as bad as you think. a lot of that stuff is all controlled from the computer, so it's gonna be more of matching up the computer wires from the new computer to the old wires leaving the computer and going to the dash. there's several people who have done the swap on ls1trucks.com, and fullsizechevy.com, and i don't think that the dash swap is necessary. i'll get some links for you. hang on...
