As you get ready to fill out your Bowl Pick’em and Bowl Mania submissions, I give you all the information you need to put you on top of your pool. In my comprehensive bowl preview, I’ll tell you upsets to look out for, potentially entertaining games, some not-so enthralling games and the picks to make that will give you ultimate bragging rights this bowl season.
Upset alerts
Upset alerts are warnings for possible upsets. In them I am not necessarily picking the upsets to occur, but I am telling you to watch out and that I wouldn’t be surprised if an upset did happen. My picks will tell you which of the upsets I believe will actually occur.
Arizona State over Boise State. This game is one of those games where I don’t think an upset will actually occur, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it did. Arizona State is a loaded team in the talent department, but Dennis Erickson was unable to keep the Sun Devils focused. They will be motivated to send Erickson off on a high note and Erickson will be leaving it all out on the table. Arizona State is also hyped up around its new hire of Todd Graham. Meanwhile, Boise State is not happy to be in Vegas for the second year in a row, especially after probably deserving to be in a BCS bowl game this year. Remember, the Sun Devils are a team that beat USC (a team that many consider to be a top five team and the best in the Pac-12) by 21 points.
Penn State over Houston. Houston is coming off a terrible loss in the Conference USA title game and was planning on playing in the Sugar Bowl. Remember what happened to Utah after it lost to TCU last season? The Utes suffered a huge hangover because the season was seemingly over. The same thing could happen to a Cougar team that is favored by nine, especially against a team with a defense like Penn State. Louisiana Tech over TCU. TCU is another team that may not want to be playing in its bowl game. The Horned Frogs wanted to be in a BCS bowl or at least the Las Vegas Bowl, now they’ve dropped all the way to the Poinsettia Bowl. This is a program-changing game for the Bulldogs who had a very good year in the WAC. For them, the Poinsettia Bowl is the coveted place to be. The untypically inexperienced TCU defense will face a quality passing game and a versatile quarterback in Colby Cameron.First Mortgage Boise - News
