Triple Play: Three things to know in sports this weekend

At 4:30 p.m., Sioux Falls Christian takes on Elk Point- Jefferson, followed by top-rated '9AA' Bridgewater/ Emery-Ethan facing No. 1 '9A' Canistota at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for the event can be purchased on game day at the USF ticket office at the stadium. Adult tickets are $7 and students are $3. Former Washington High standout Matt Hermanson will make his college debut Saturday in front of 102,000 fans at the University of Tennessee's Neyland Stadium.

The 2010 Argus Leader Elite 45 captain is a backup free safety who also plays special teams for Montana, a traditional FCS power that decided not to redshirt Hermanson as a true freshman. "He's pretty excited," said father Brian Hermanson, who coached Matt at Washington and led the Warriors to two state titles. "If he had his choice, he definitely wanted to not redshirt. He wants to get out there and contribute as much as he can."

Coach Hermanson will be pretty busy the next two Saturdays with the Presidents Bowl and Dakota Bowl, but he hopes to get to Montana games later in the season, especially if the Grizzlies make the playoffs.

As for Matt, he impressed his new coaches by doing what he's always done. Hit hard and often on defense. The rodeo also features Make-A-Wish children as the special guests of the NBRT, a tradition for the last eight years. Make-A-Wish and NBRT have had a relationship for more than 14 years.

Tickets for the NBRT finals are available at the Arena box office or Ticketmaster outlets. Prices range from $15 to $30 for adults and $7.50 to $15 after discount for children 12 and under.

We are still in the process of working out all the details to reschedule the two seminars postponed by Irene this weekend. Unfortunately with leagues starting to play earlier and earlier each year the ice availability is limited. We are working hard to come up with solutions for the program.
